When we're young, we don't know we have patterns.
We just have a life.
It's only later, when the same situations keep finding us, different faces, different jobs, different addresses, and that same feeling - that we start to wonder.
A client of mine has spent her life running. From confrontation. From conversations she couldn't bring herself to have. From situations that made her feel small and she hated that feeling.
She never got the hand on it. Never understood why she couldn't just say what was on her mind. Truly. Honestly. Authentically. So she did what she'd always done.
She left.
Again. And again. And again. ⠀
She is now in her sixties and for the first time in her life, she doesn't want to run anymore. She wants to face it.
To understand why this keeps happening.
To finally put it down. ⠀
Patterns, over time, become identity. We stop noticing them. We just *become* them.
And we attract the things we need to sustain the stories we're within - like the need to run away from situations. ⠀
Reading this back, something stirs in me too.
What am I running away from? Am I running? ⠀
The quietest, most honest answers come when we let the question stay in the room a little longer than feels comfortable.
